Humility

Being humble is really such an important way of being to strive for. It seems that we are all so busy in our daily lives that we forget about humility and how important it is. It’s importance is not only for the others we may touch but for ourselves and the journeys we are on in this life.

As a parent of teens I try to be aware of my own humility and model/ teach it to my children. This is no easy task but it is so valuable. I watch my kids and see that there is so much working against them in this world that tests them and their ability to be humble. All the important lessons that are there for them to learn are sometimes masked by the darker things in life.

Teaching my children is also a way of teaching myself too.  I work to remain aware of my own humility so my children know what it is.  I also think humility is a work in progress, something we never grow out of growing into, as so many things in life are.

Reflecting on humility has reminded me again of how valuable an emotion it is and how powerful it is for our everyday lives.  Thanks for letting me share this and reminding me to keep my awareness going!

The State of Humble

Humility, Is it lost in our world?  I actually had to look up the word and read the definition.  Webster states, “the quality or state of being humble.”  I found this to lead to more questions.  What is Humble?  The first definition offered was “not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive.”  I liked that definition.  It challenges me to be a better person, to live with greater awareness, and to choose to live in a state of being humble.

The examination of this word, this state of being has helped me to be in awareness of when I am not humble.  Too often in this world we want the recognition, we want the praise.  It feels good to our ego to know that we made a difference.  It ensures that we are important and maybe even a little wanted.  When was the last time you did something because it was right and then didn’t tell anyone about it??  My answer, longer than I would like.  The feeling of being important, wanted, appreciated, etc… does NOT come from outside of ourselves.  Look inward…do you recognize that you are enough? You are born good, whole, loved, wanted — PERFECT!!

For me, to accept this Divine truth of who I am will enable me to live in a place humility in all that I think, do, and am.  I appreciate the opportunity to stop for a moment, recognize where I am and reset my course.  I am humbled by the love that I am and the love that I intend to share.  May you too find a place to humbly accept all that you were born to be and then live in that state of humble!  I believe that if we all act a bit more humble, the world will be a much happier place.
